William Clyde Griffin

MEBANE-The Honorable William Clyde Griffin, Jr., 71, of Mebane and Ocracoke died at home Sunday, December 22, 2013. He was born April 4, 1942 in Martin County, NC to the late William Clyde Griffin, Sr. aneeleanor Waters Griffin. Although he lived ineebane for several years, Judge Griffin was born and raised in Williamston, NC . He lived and worked there with his own family. Judge Griffin first served the public as District Attorney for the Second Judicial District of North Carolina from 1968 until December 1984. At that time, he was appointed Chief Resident Superior Court Judge of the Second Judicial District and later won judicial elections to remain in that capacity until he retired in June 2009. Judge Griffin was a graduate of Williamston High School in Williamston, NC, The Uneersity of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC, and Rutgers School of Law School ineew Brunswick, NJ. He was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Williamston where he served as a Deacon and then later joined the Uneersity Presbyterian Church of Chapel Hill. He attended the Uneed Methodist Church during his extended visits to Ocracoke. Mr. Griffin is survived by his wife, Jane Koebig Griffin, his sons, William Clyde Griffin III and wife, Holly of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Mark Koebig Griffin and wife, Angela of Apex; his brother, Thomas Waters Griffin and wife Theresa of Winston-Salem; his grandchildreneemily Jane Griffin, Mary Ann Griffin, Alice June Griffin, Grace Eleanor Griffin and Davis Koebig Griffin. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00pm Friday, December 27, 2013 at Uneersity Presbyterian Church, 209 E. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27514 with Rev. Robert Dunham and Rev. Anna Pinckney Straight officiating. Pastor Laura Stern of The Uneed Methodist Church of Ocracoke will also be officiating.
