Wiley Poole Clark

August 6, 1926 — January 29, 2016

DURHAM-Wiley Poole Clark, age 89, died Friday, January 29, 2016 at the Hock Pavilion. He was a native and life-long resident of Durham. He was born August 6, 1926 to the late Leonadas Louis Clark and Florence Poole Clark. Wiley served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1944-1946, stationed ineew Hebrides and in Guam. After the war he worked for Pickard Roofing Company for many years before going into business for himself. Wiley was highly respected for the quality of his work and for the pride he took in a job well done. In addition to being an ardent Duke Basketball fan, Wiley enjoyed fishing, reading and yard work. His creativity and skill helped him create many things from metal, wood and other materials. Above all, the most important thing in life for him was his family. Wiley was strong, yet genee. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was hard working, yet he neer failed to have time for those who needed him. Wiley was soft spoken, kind hearted, generous, and the family peace maker. The world will be a sadder place for his passing, but so much better because he was in it. Wiley will be greatly missed by his wife of 68 years, Shirley Tillman Clark, and by his daughters, Joyce Clark Breeze(Ricky) of Hillsborough, NC and Robin Clark Robertson (Jim) of Kure Beach, NC; his sister, Peggy O???Neal of Durham; his grandson, Jeff Breeze (Sarah) and great-grandchildren, Caroline Breeze and Joseph Breeze of Cary; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm on Monday, February 1, 2016 in Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 pm Sunday at Hall Wynne Funeral Service.
