Virginia Janet Spranger, 75, died on Friday, July 6, 2012. Virginia was born in Milwaukee, WI to the late John and Janet Grochowski on July 19, 1936. Virginia was a loving wife, mother, friend, voluneer and social worker. She graduated from UNCC with a bachelor degree in Social Work and obtained her Masters in Social Work at the Uneersity of Houston. Virginia was an active listener and cared for all people. Virginia worked as a social worker and social work supervisor at Durham County Social Services. She was an active member of Holy Infant Catholic Church in Durham, NC. "She was an intelligent, giving woman who would help others wherever she saw need. Virginia is survived by her husband of 55 years Wayne Spranger of Durham, NC; daughters Joan MacDonald and husband Myles of Nashville, TN, June Robertson of Charlotte, NC, Joy Mix of Chapel Hill; son David Spranger and wife Laura of Charlotte, NC; brother John Grochowski and sisters Patricia Reinke and Barabara Singert, 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Her daughter Janis Ann Spriggs preceded Virginia ineeath. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 10, 2012 from Holy Infant Catholic Church, 5000 Southpark Drive, Durham, NC 27713 with Fr. Dave Devlin, OSFS, presiding. A Rite of Christian Burial will follow at St. Matthew Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit following the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Virginia's nee may be made to Catholic Charities Piedmont Regional Office at 902 Broad Street, Durham, NC 27705.
