Straughn Scott Whitaker

Mr. Straughn Scott Whitaker, 62, of Old Sanford Road, died May 24, 2013 in his residence. Scott was born July 8, 1950 in Chatham County, the son of William Straughn Whitaker and Frances Wilda Chester Whitaker. Scott was a 1968 graduate of Pittsboro High School, where he played quarterback for the football team. Following high school, Scott attended Sandhills Community College. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing and playing softball. Scott served as president of the Dry Forks Hunt Club. Early on, Scott worked with his father at Tire Sales, which later became Scott's Tire Sales. Scott closed his tire business following a stroke, and later began working with Chatham Transit for as long as his health permitted. He was a member of Pittsboro Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his sons, Kain Whitaker and wife Ashley, and Kurt Whitaker, all of Pittsboro; brother, Don Whitaker of Pittsboro; sister, Clara Lynn Whitaker Richardson and husband Hank, of Pittsboro; nephews, Grant, Tyler, Will and John; and niece, Aimee. Scott was preceded ineeath by his parents. The service to celebrate the life of Mr. Scott Whitaker will be held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning, May 28, 2013 from Pittsboro Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. Troy Lesher-Thomas will preside. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 8:00 pm Monday at Hall Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro, and at other time at the residence of Clara Lynn and Hank Richardson. Memorials may be directed to either Pittsboro Presbyterian Church, PO Box 713, Pittsboro, NC 27312; or to Carolina Dialysis.
