Rose Marie Shotwell

Rose Marie Shotwell, age 89, passed away on March 11, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Rufus Eugene Woodlief and Mary Belle Beaver Woodlief.  Marie was born in Oxford, NC, Granville County on April 30, 1932.   

Marie loved the Lord with all heart. She practiced and believed in the power of daily prayer, including writing them down in a journal. Her favorite chapter read daily was Psalm 91. She was a woman dedicated to her family, home, and work. She was a writer, a superb cook, gardener, and family historian.

With sincere belief, her favorite statement was… “Remember the past; Live in the present and Look forward to the future.”   

Marie is survived by her daughter, Deborah Colligan, son-in-law, Gary and her grandsons, Aaron (Laura) and Jonathan. Her deceased daughter, June Shepherd, grandsons, Keith Shepherd, Michael Shepherd (Ashley), great grandchildren, Tanner, Quinn and Reagann Shepherd.  She is also survived by her siblings, William Woodlief, Brenda Noah and Ann Ingold; her sister-in-law, Ada Shotwell and her brother-in-law, Donald Shotwell.

Marie was predeceased by her eight siblings.

A funeral service will be held at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan, Oxford, NC, in the Chapel at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, March 19, 2022, and will be officiated by Rev. Norman Talley.  A visitation for friends and family will be held at 1:00 pm at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan.   Burial will follow the service at Virgilina City Cemetery in Virgilina, VA.

Her daughter, Deborah shares… “Mom is gone from our presence but will be remembered forevermore in our hearts.” 

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions to cover her funeral costs.
