Nicholas Musgrove

Nicholas Ryan Musgrove, age 31, died Saturday, July 26, 2014. He was born in Olney, MD on March 19, 1983. Nick spent his first 8 years ineermantown MD. In 1992 he and his family moved to Lexington, KY. In 1993 Nick and his family moved to Terre Haute, IN. And lastly in 1995 at the age of 12 Nick and his family moved to Durham NC where he resided until his death. Nick loved sports. At the age of six he became part of the Churchill East Piranhas Swim Team. Nick received metals for this and an award for ???mostly likely to be found flirting with Cary the lifeguard.??? Other sports he enjoyed playing in his elementary school years as he moved to different states were baseball, flag football and football. Soccer became Nick???s favorite sport. In middle school when while home schooled he played on a North Durham soccer team. In high school Nick attended Cresset Christian Academy where he was on the soccer and golf team. His passion for soccer and a good friend lead him to the decision to become a referee for his favorite sport. During these years Nick was also part of the ???SPONGE??? youth group at Christian Assembly Church where he went oneeveral missions trip to Jamaica. While in Jamaica he ministered at a boy???s home and a children???s orphanee. Nick had a deep love for these boys aneenjoyed playing soccer with them. In turn they were drawn to Nick and his zest for life. After graduating from high school Nick went to Advanced Technology Automotive School. The automotive skills he learned took him to Iraq for a season as a civilian contractor. While there Nick also learned the skill of welding. Nick had a wide range of talents, skills, interests and hobbies as well as a wide diverse range of great friends. His talents included playing guitar, song and poem writing, drawing and an artistic ability that shined through many areas. One in particular was cooking. With his friends Nick enjoyed skate boarding, jamming, as well as watching bands jam it out, playing disc golf and ping pong, riding motorcycles, four wheeling, hiking/camping, hunting along with trips to the beach and the mountains. Nick was a wonderful conversationalist who enjoyed a deep talk. His gift for gab allowed him to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger. Nick had a patriotic heart, and a love for his country. During his teens he was in Civil Air Patrol. He also served in the Army for a short stint. Nick not only had a great love for friends and his county, but also his family and his dog Giggs. Nick spent couneess hours with his pal Giggs playing Frisbee and hiking. He loved hiking, camping and hunting with his Dad, coming home for family dinners to spend time with his Mom. He was proud of his sister, Christa and the family she had with her husband John and their children. He loved playing with his nieces and nephews as Nick always had a child???s heart. He looked forward to the out of town visits from his grandparents, aunts, unees and cousins. He especially looked forward to going out to breakfast with his grandparents which became a traditionee loved as well as visiting his great-grandmother. In the last 5 years his passion was Jiu Jitsu. Nick trained with Team Royce Gracie Chapel Hill Jiu Jitsu where he mentored under Mazi Heydary. There he developed a strong bond with his team and with others who trained there. Most recently Nick finally found his true passion in life which was working for a local tree service company. Nick is survived by his loving parents, Dawn and Chris Musgrove of Durham, NC; his sister, Christa Musgrove Maney and husband, John, of Hickory, NC and their childreneemery, Rowaneeisley and Amos; and his sister Nicole Burns and husband RB and their son Ethan; his maternal grandparents, Joe and Jackie Raley of Hagerstown, MD; his great-grandmother, Dorothy Williams of Durham; many loving aunts, unees and cousins; and his beloved dog, Giggs. He was preceded ineeath by his paternal grandparents, Robert Musgrove and Anne and Jack Bechtel. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 9th at Sunrise Church in Chapel Hill with Pastor Dub Karricker and Pastor Rod Chaney presiding. Friends may visit Friday evening, August 8th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 W. Main St. in Durham.
