Mildred Frances Newsome

December 19, 1920 — November 26, 2023

Mildred Newsome, age 102, a lifetime resident of Oxford, joined our Father in heaven on 11/26/2023. She was the daughter of the late Lewis Thomas Newton and Flora Elizabeth Critcher.

Mildred was a devoted member of the Hester Baptist Church and graduated from Berea High School, Oxford. She devoted her life to raising three children, assisted on the farm, worked at Murdoch Center (nurse’s aide in the Infirmary) and worked as a CNA at Granville Medical Center. She loved God, the Hester Baptist Church family, traveling to the NC mountains, cooking (she was known for her chocolate pies at Hester), flowers, country music and dancing.

Mildred was predeceased by her husbands; Macy K. Watson, Vernon Strother, and William B. Newsome; her six brothers and sisters; Mattie Lee Newton, Ruby Elizabeth Newton, Oliver (Bud) Vance Newton, Robert Mitchell Newton, Stewart Edward Newton, and Doris Louise Newton.

Surviving are her children; Ernestine Parrott, Dianne Young (Ashton), and Jerry Watson; her five grandchildren, Jason Watson (Inge), Tommy Watson, Sherri Frazier (Frank), Cynthia Scott (Roy), Amanda Martin (Ryan); her four great grandchildren, Mitchell Frazier (Brittany), Chad Frazier (Morgan), Haylee Martin and Jacob Martin; and also, three great-great grandchildren, Gracen, Camden and Luke. She leaves behind many friends and an extended family too numerous to name.

A funeral service to celebrate Mildred’s life will be held at Hester Baptist Church on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 3:00 pm in the chapel and officiated by Reverend Jeff Hensley. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the parlor. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Flowers are welcomed or the family kindly requests that donations be made in her memory to Hester Baptist Church's Outreach Fund, to promote the word of God.

The Newsome family is receiving honorable care and support from Gentry-Newell & Vaughan, located at 503 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565. Online memorials: www.gnvfuneralhome.com
