Michael Lee Atwood

Michael Lee Atwood, 77, died January 26, 2017 at his home. He was born in Forsyth Co, NC on March 29, 1939 to Talmage and Mary Frances Holder Atwood. Michael was born and raised in Winston-Salem, NC, graduated from James Gray High School in 1958. He enlisted in the Navy and served two active years on a submarine. Michael married Judith Crews in 1961. They were married for 31 years. He received a degree in electronics technology and went to work at IBM Corporation in RTP, NC and retired in 1995 with 30 years of service. He was a loving, caring father, grandfather and great grandfather. Michael is survived by sons, Michael L. Atwood, II (Colette Ward), and Gregory L. Atwood (Teresa); grandchildren, Phillip Atwood, Stephanie Santelmann, Jessica Rodriguez, and Matthew Atwood; and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, James Atwood (Vicki), Steve Atwood (Brenda), Brad Atwood, Jeff Atwood (Tammy), Mark Atwood (April) and many other loving family and friends. He is predeceased by his wife, Judith C. Atwood; and brother, Chris Atwood. A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Meadowview Memorial Park, Hwy 15 N, Oxford, NC by Pastor Wesley Garner. Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to one of Michael's favorite charities, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org/donate or Disabled American Veterans, www.dav.org/donate. The Atwood family is under the care of Gentry-Newell - Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford.
