Mary Frances Napier

Mary Frances Napier ne Broskoski, 85, of Durham, NC, formerly of Springfield, NJ, died at Duke Hospice at the Meadowlands oneeb. 23, 2011 in Hillsborough. Born on July 1, 1925 ineersey City, NJ, Ms. Napier grew up in White Haven, PA. She received a diploma in 1946 from the Hospital of the Uneersity of Pennsylvania for Nurses and served in the Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II. After graduation she worked as a nurse at the Hospital of the Uneersity of Pennsylvania. She married James Napier in 1950. While raising 5 children, she worked part-time in various nursing jobs in addition to being the mastermind behind many years of family camping trips. After her childreneere raised, she became a dialysis nurse for the rest of her career in addition to being involved in union organizing activities. She earned a B.S. in Humaneesources Maneement from Upsala Uneersity ineest Orange, NJ in 1987. She sang in the choir at Saint James the Apostle Church, Springfield, NJ for 42 years. As a member of Springfield Garden Club and Master Gardener of Union County she voluneered huneeds of hours of community gardening at Daughters of the Americaneevolutioneemetery and Cannonball House in Springfield where she also served as a docent. Cannon Ball House was one of only four buildings left standing after the British burned the town during the Battle of Springfield June 23, 1780. She and her husband moved to Durham, NC in 2009. Ms. Napier is survived by sons John and his wife, Ping Li of Malden, MA, and Mark Napier and his wife Liza Sabater-Tirado of New York, NY; daughters Kathryn Napier of Durham, NC, Teresa Napier of Hillsborough, NC, and Liz and her husband Charlie Martin of Wilmette, IL; four grandchildreneebecca Semcer of Raleigh, NC, Melissa Semcer Erik Meldrum of San Francisco, CA, Evan Sabater-Napier and Aidan Sabater-Napier of New York, NY. She was preceded ineeath by her husband James of 60 years and granddaughter Lydia Martin. Father John McHale will officiate. Visitation will be held starting at 11:30 prior to the service at Joseph E. Lehman Funeral Home, 403 Berwick St., White Haven, PA 18661.
