OXFORD: Lewis Graham Harris, Jr passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, April 27, 2018 following a brief period of declining health. Graham was born in 1933 in Granville County to L.G. Harris and Ola Belle Tunstall Harris. Graham's life was a legacy of service to others. A life-long member of Gray Rock Methodist Church and citizen of Granville County, Graham spent his life setting an example of helping others and teaching us to leave things better than we found them. A gentle soul, we will always remember his wit, his playful nature and his quick smile. After his service in the U.S. Army, Graham's early career included time at the Pine State Creamery in Oxford before joining the Oxford Post Office. Graham served many years as Postmaster in Kittrell, NC. Following his retirement from the postal service Graham worked for more than 24 years as a funeral associate with Gentry-Newell - Vaughn. Active in his community, Graham was a long-time member of the Oxford Shrine Club and a member of the Masonic Lodge for 42 years and a former Master. Surviving are nieces, Barbara B. Crews, Nancy B. Johnson, LaVergne P. Popovitch, and Debra P. Giuliani; and nephew, Michael W. Peters. Additionally, Graham is survived by many extended family members and friends, including special friends Robert Taylor Floyd and Jerry Louis Floyd of the Gray Rock community. Graham is predeceased by the love of his life, Louise C. Harris; sisters, Maude Ellen Peters and Edna Earle Boone; and niece, Jane P. Brame. Funeral Services will be held, Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 3:30 pm in Gentry-Newell - Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Matt Robinson. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm at Gentry-Newell - Vaughan Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the name of L. Graham Harris, Jr. to the Masonic Home For Children, 600 College St., Oxford, NC 27565 or Gray Rock Methodist Church, c/o Jason Hockaday, 3692 Cannady Mill Rd., Kittrell, NC 27544.
