Mrs. Joy Clifton Goodwin, 63, of Apex, NC, died Friday September 4, 2009 at Wake Medical Center in Cary. Joy was born March 3, 1946 to Charles Thorton and Joy Crews Clifton. She graduated from Campbell Uneersity in 1968 with a BS Degree in Sociology. Mrs. Goodwin has worked in various capacities of banking and most recently in customer service at Suntrust Bank in Raleigh, Lake Boone Trail location. She was an avid reader, loved the "Carolina Hurricanes", aneenjoyed cooking. Joy was a member of Gum Springs Baptist Church in Moncure, NC. Mrs. Goodwin is survived by her husband of 18 years, Harry Goodwin; her mother, Joy Crews Clifton of Pittsboro, NC; a stepson, Steven Goodwin and wife Haley of Clayton, NC; a stepdaughter, Leigh Anne Goodwin of Pittsboro, NC; and 3 step-granddaughters, Claire Goodwin and Isabelle Goodwin of Clayton, NC, and Anna Grace Johnson of Pittsboro, NC. She was preceded ineeath by her father, Charles Thorton Clifton. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm Sunday, September 6, 2009 at Hall-Wynne Griffin Chapel in Pittsboro. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 7, 2009 at Gum Springs Baptist Church, with Rev. Leonard Nix and Rev. Jim Willingham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In addition to flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8300 Health Park, Raleigh, NC 27615, phone 919-334-5218.
