John R. Nelson

Virgilina, VA John R. Nelson, age 93 of Virgilina, died Saturday, April 13, 2013. A native of Halifax County, he was the son of the late John Irby and Mary Ella Morris Nelson and widower of Mary Carmichael Nelson. John was a World War II veteran of the US Army, a member of the Americaneegion Post 8 for 50 years, a member of Amis Chapel Baptist Church and a retired employee of US Plywood. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 19, 2013 at Meadowview Memorial Park by Reverend D.L. Page. Surviving is a daughter, Mary F. Williams of Oxford, NC; a soneedward Nelson of Florida; two sisters, Virgie McCann of Roxboro, Nanee Taylor of Richmond, VA, and Lucy Nelson of Richmond, VA; 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Virgilina Voluneer Fire Department, 8052 Florence Avenue, Virgilina, VA 24598.
