John Moody Matthews, Jr.

OXFORD: J. Moody Matthews, Jr. age 86, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 04, 2011 at his home. A long time resident of both Perquimans County, NC and Granville County, NC, he co-owned and co-maneed Farmer's Feed and Seed Co. ineertford, NC for many years. He was a veteran of WWII; a member of the Army Air Corp and attended North Carolina State Uneersity. Mr. Matthews was a member of Oxford Baptist Church and the Adult II Sunday School Class. He was a former member of Herford Uneed Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Oxford Baptist Church by Dr. J. Steven Bolton. Burial will follow ineester Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 P.M. prior to the service in the Church Family Center at Oxford Baptist Church and at other times at the home. Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Sylvia Currin Matthews; sons, John Jay Moody Matthews, III and wife Rita Matthews, and their daughter Alexa Nanee of Chesapeake, VA and Matt Currin Matthews of Virginia Beach, VA.. He is also survived by sisters, Carolyn M. Lane and husband Lloyd A. Lane of Hertford, NC and Ann M. Henry of Deerfield Beach, FL. He was predeceased by a son, Robert Whitman Matthews.
