Joann Smigla

JoAnn Smigla , age 84, of Durham, passed away on Sept.26. She is survived by her husband Ray Smigla, sister, Carmen Carrr, son, Greg and wife Rosemarie, son Terry and wife Lisa,five grandchildren, Katie, Joey, Tommy, Chloe and Tessa.

She received a bachelor’s degree from Butler University, where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She was an avid painter and taught art at both grade and High school levels.

She was a member of Holy Infant Catholic Church. JoAnn’s favorite activities was spending time with her grandchildren and family.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her father, Lewis Nichols, mother Carmelita Nichols, and brother Lewis Nichols.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from Holy Infant Catholic Church.

The family will receive friends before the Mass from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Crohns Colitis Foundation 

The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff at the Duke University Cardiac ICU.

Arrangement for the family are under the care of Hall Wynne Funeral Service.
