James Herman Watkins, age 85, passed away in Durham on January 23, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Watkins lived on the family farm five miles south of Oxford in Providence. He was preceded ineeath by his wife of 52 years, Nellie Gray Currin Watkins, who passed away in 2000. Herman and Nell Waktins are survived by two children, a son, James Herman Watkins, Jr. Wanda of Durham and a daughter, Mary Nell Watkins Darden Jim of Clinton, N.C. Mr. Watkins grandchildren are Alison Watkins, Ashley Briggs Chris, Jeffrey Darden Katie and Jay Darden Paula, and six great grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews. James Herman Watkins was born to George Washington Watkins and Isobel Bradsher Watkins oneelltown Road in rural Granville County. He had three brothers, and three Sisters. Mr. Watkins was preceded ineeath by his brother William Bill Watkins of Oxford, and George Watkins, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida. He was preceded ineeath by sisters Louise Watkins Perry of Oxford and Frances Watkins Hedgecock of Columbia, South Carolina. Mr. Watkins is survived by a brother Harry Leslie Watkins and wife Geraldine Dixon of Oxford, a sister Elizabeth Watkins Neer Charles of Staunton, Virginia. Services for Mr. Watkins will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Gentry-neell & Vaughan Funeral Home on College Street in Oxford. Burial will follow at the Averett-Overtoneemetery on Shock Overton Road in Providence. The Watkins family is being assisted by Gentry-neell & Vaughan Funeral Home.
