Jack Willard Bergstrom

DURHAM ??? Jack Willard Bergstrom passed away Monday, June 4, 2018 at his home at The Forest at Duke. He was born inees Moines, Iowa to the late Myron and Lorrene Bergstrom. Jack graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston, WV in 1946. He met his late wife of 64 years, Kathryn Tuttle Bergstrom, at Duke Uneersity where they both graduated in 1950. They later married at Duke Chapel in 1951. He enlisted in the US Air Force ineecember 1951 and graduated from the US Air Force Officer Candidate School in July 1952. He served at Lowry AFB ineenver, Colorado, Kessler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi aneelmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska. Jack separated from the Air Force in 1953 and joined Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company. He worked in Durham, Mexico aneeurope. He graduated from the Uneersity of Virginia Advanced Maneement School in 1969 and traneerred to Pinkerton Tobacco Company in Owensboro, Kentucky in 1975. He retired in 1991 as Vice President of Manufacturing from Pinkerton Tobacco Company. Jack and Kathy moved back to Durham in 1991 where they spent aneenjoyed their retirement years. They were members for over 50 years at Epworth Uneed Methodist Church. Jack is survived by his daughter, Debbie Bergstrom of Durham; his son, Gregg Bergstrom and wife, Mollie of Charlotte; his grandchildren, Kathryn-Ruth Sasser and husband, Allen of Auburn, Alabama and Austineergstrom of Charlotte; his aunt, Marlys Lindaman of Concord. A memorial service will be held at The Forest at Duke, June 9th at 2PM. A reception will be held following the memorial service. Memorials may be made to the benevolent fund at The Forest at Duke or to Epworth Uneed Methodist Church. The Bergstrom family is under the care of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.
