George Dewey Clayton, Iii

Mr. George Dewey Clayton III, 62, peacefully passed away at home, Sunday August, 5th, 2012, with his family by his side. A native of Durham County, George was born the son of George Clayton Jr. and Audrey Hunt. After graduating from Northern H.S. in 1968, he was a first place winner of Mr. NC Physique 1975 & Mr. Atlantic States 1976 body building championships. George was a loving & caring son, husband, and father to his children. He was a Christian and very family oriented. He enjoyed taking family trips to North Myrtle Beach and "shagging" at Fat Herald's. On his 60th birthday, he was surprised by two of his favorite radio station DJ's; Big John & Soul Dog of 102.9FM. A "true" Tarheel, George looked forward to UNC ball games. George's favorite past-time was working out at the gym and he will miss his many pal and friends he met along the way. After 31 years of service, George retired from GTE as an engineer. He had a great love of his job and for the people that he worked with. Survivors include his wife and best friend of 34 years, Frances Baines Clayton; his son, Kris Clayton; his daughter, Chelsea Clayton; his parents, George Clayton Jr. & Audrey Hunt Clayton; and his pal, Jake, all of Durham. A service to celebrate the life of George will be held 2:00PM Sunday, August 12th, 2012 at Bethany UMC in Durham, NC. A visitation will follow in the fellowship hall.
