Garland Ross Sorrell, 87, resident of 2601 Ellis Road, died at his home Saturday morning. Born in Durham, Mr. Sorrell was the son of the late Conee Landis and Tina Ross Sorrell. He was retired from Long Meadow Dairy. Mr. Sorrell was a long time member of Bethesda Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Disciples's Bible Class, taught Sunday School and served on the Cemetery Committee. He was also a long time member of the Bethesda Ruritan Club. Mr. Sorrell loved hands on farming and many articles have been written in the paper about him and his donkeys. He enjoyed tilling the soil and raising donkeys. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris Marshburn Sorrell, one daughter, Tina Johnson and husband Glenn and one son, C. G. Sorrell and wife, Brenda; all of Durham and 5 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 pm Tuesday at Bethesda Baptist Church. The Rev. E. Hugh O'Shields and the Rev. Michael Bonds will preside. Burial will be ineethesda Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Monday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Disciple's Bible Class. Flowers are acceptable or memorials may be made to the Bethesda Baptist Church, 1914 S.
