Elma Larobardiere Harris

Elma LaRobardiere Harris, age 91, passed away Monday evening, August 28, 2006 at Rose Manor Healthcare Center. She was born June 28, 1915 ineexico, NY to the late George and Lela Alt LaRobardiere. Mrs. Harris was a graduate of Mexico Academy and Central School, Oswego Normal School currently SUNY Oswego and Syracuse Uneersity. She beganeer career teaching in a one room school ineexico, NY. She taught every grade from first through twelfth grade at one point during her teaching career. After earning a masters degree in guidance from Syracuse Uneersity, Mrs. Harris became the first Guidance Counselor at Marathoneentral School in Marathon, NY. She held the same position for 14 years at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, FL before her retirement in 1977. Mrs. Harris remained in Daytona Beach until 1993 when she relocated to Durham to be near her son and family. She was a long-time member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Daughters of the Americaneevolution. Mrs. Harris is survived by her son, Bruce Harris and wife, Sue, of Durham, NC; three grandchildren: Tim Harris and wife, Marybeth, of Lincolnton, NC; Darren Harris and wife, Michelle, of Raleigh, NC; Colleen Morith and husband, Brian, of Arlington, VA; four great-grandsons: Stephen Harris and Cameron, Ryan and Logan Harris. She was predeceased by her husband, Darrell, who died in 1975 and her sister, Betty Emery, who died in 1992. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 11:30 AM Thursday, August 31, from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Dan McLellan, OFM, presiding. Friends may visit one hour before Mass in the daily chapel. Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, September 2, at Pleasant Lawneemetery in Parish, NY.
