Donald Victor Ferrier

Ret. Lt. Col. Donald Victor Ferrier died on Thursday, March 01, 2012. Donald was born at Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico to Charles and Pilar Ferrier on April 13, 1953. He was a retired LTC from the U.S. Army after 23 years of service and was a highly decorated Veteran. While serving he received the following awards: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendationeedal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, The National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Kuwait Liberationeedal, Senior Army Aviation Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, and a Range Tab. After retiring from the Army he worked as the Deputy Director for the NC Department of Transportation. Donald was a kind and loving father to his two daughters. He was also a genuine and loyal friend to those that knew him. Donald had a passion for travel and the outdoors. He enjoyed woodworking and other hands on projects. Donald is survived by his daughters Rebecca Ferrier of San Francisco, CA aneelizabeth Ferrier of Raleigh, NC; mother Pilar Ferrier of Lakeland, FL. Donald is also survived by nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 2:00pm Wednesday, February 07, 2012 from Holy Infant Catholic Church, 5000 Southpark Dr Durham, North Carolina 27713 with Fr. Dave Devlin, OSFS, presiding. A Rite of Christian Burial will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. The Ferrier family is under the care of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Durham.
