David Lyle Donaldson, age 79, passed away October 16, 2011 following declining health from Parkinson Disease. Dave was born and raised in Illinois and moved to NC after serving proudly in the Uneed States Marine Corps during the Korean War. While stationed at Camp LeJeune, he met the love of his life, Beulah Keck, from Pittsboro. They married in 1954 and lived in the Hanks Chapel Church Community until her death in 2009. As they requested, Dave and Beulah's ashes will be interred together at Hanks Chapel Church. Dave Donaldson was a Godly maneerving his church, his country, family and community in many ways. He was a pillar in Hanks Chapel Church in every role as a Sunday school teacher, Deacon, member of the search committee, Board of Trustees, Boy Scout leader, Youth leader and any capacity called upon to serve. He spent his early career as a barber in Chapel Hill, moved into law enforcement and retired as Chief of Public Safety at UNC Hospitals. Following his retirement, Dave joined his beloved Tarheel family at the UNC General Alumni Association part time. He was also a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Dave is survived by his son and daughter in law, Mark and Sara Donaldson, of Pittsboro. He also leaves behind three devoted grandchildren, Adam David Donaldson, Aneea Donaldson McKnight and her husband, Carney, Lyle William Donaldson and one great grandchild, Chase. Dave enjoyed a very special relationship with his only surviving sister, Leona Runyon and his niece, Sue, of Illinois. He is also survived by one brother, Johnny Donaldson, of Wyoming, one nephew, Tom & Jessie Morss, of Illinois, and his great niece, Gina Morss-Fischer. Two sisters, Pauline aneelaine, predeceased him. A celebration of life will be held at Hanks Chapel Church. The service will be on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 4:00 pm followed by dinner with the family in the fellowship hall. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro, and at all other times at the home of Mark and Sara Donaldson.
