OXFORD: Mr. Billie Joe Loyd, Jr., died August 26, 2014 in Granville Medical Center. He was the son of the late Billie Joe Loyd, Sr. and Elma Sykes Loyd. He was a native of Franklin County and was of the Baptist faith. B.J. worked for and retired from the USDA Conservation Service in 1990 with over 32 years of service. In 1991 B.J. worked with the Granville Soil and Water District part-time until June of 2009 when he retired with over 50 years of service to both agencies. In November B.J. was appointed to the Granville County Soil and Water District Board of Supervisors and served until present. B.J. specialty was designing and constructing ponds. He spent a lot of time on special assignments such as the Crabtree Creek Flood Project around the Raleigh Durham Airport. Funeral services will be conducted Friday August 29, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Gentry-Newell - Vaughan Chapel by Rev. John Yount. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Henrietta Callis Loyd; daughter, Mary White (Brian) of Raleigh; two grandchildren, Evan Patrick White and Emma Kate White. He was preceded in death by a brother, Willie Loyd, Sr. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Helen; nephew, Robert Loyd (Ann); two nieces, Meredith Wilder (David) and Loria Lester (Eugene);and brothers-in-law Frank Callis, Jr. (Carolyn), Reid Callis (Elizabeth Ann), and Roy Callis (Reca). The family will receive friends Friday, August 29, 2014 from 12:30 until 2:00 PM prior to the services. At other times they will be at the home of Roy and Reca Callis, 4059 Hwy 96 S., Oxford, NC 27565. Memorials may be made to Granville County United Way, PO Box 1542, Oxford, NC 27565.
