Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, Amelia Susie Batemanee Mar was called home to her Lord and Savior on March 18, 2019. Amelia was born ineerrebonne Parish, Louisiana in 1925, and grew up ineew Orleans with her parents Verlean Johnson Bateman and Charles Bateman. Amelia moved to Los Angeles, California in 1950 where she later pursued studies in Nursing at Trade Technical Community College and Southwest Community College and, with her husband Richard, raised their family in Compton, California. Amelia took pride ineer profession as a nurse and worked in that capacity until she was 80-years-old. She was known for selflessly looking after people withineer community, church, and family. She was a longtime active member of Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Los Angeles, California, Maria Regina Catholic Church in Gardena, California and, ineer later years, Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church ineemet, California, and Holy Cross Catholic Church in Durham, North Carolina. Amelia enjoyed serving in the altar society, cooking, shopping, traveling, and most of all spending time with her family. Amelia was preceded ineeath by her husband of 59 years, Richard De Mar and three of their six children Richard, Jr., and twins Sharon and Karenee Mar. She is survived by the couples??? three daughters, Dr. Linda Burton, Beverly Brown (and her husband, Gerry) and Debra Quarles (and her husband, Michael). She is also survived by eight grandchildren Nicole Burtoneennett (and her husband Dr. Delancy Bennett), Coren Burton, Kyra Dunn, Dr. Elan Burton, Loren Thigpen, Dr. Dorian Burton, Alexander Brown, and Alexis Browneeighteen great-grandchildren, Cedric Dunn, Jazz-myn Thigpen, Carla Dunn, Kaylee Bennett, Alanna Burton, Michael Thigpen, Bryce Burton, Charles Dunn, Caleb Dunn, Jayden Brown, Alexander Brown Jr., Brayden Burton, Beneey Brown, Cal???lee Brown, Avery Burton, DJ Bennett, Londyn Brown, and King Richard Brown; her sister Dolores Wright, aunt Lula Johnson, cousins Brenda Charles, Karen Charles, and Sika, Aaron, and Shannon Harris, as well as a host of loving family members and friends. A private family memorial was held for Amelia in Durham, North Carolina on March 26, 2019. A?? Celebration of Life gathering is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles, California on August 23, 2019. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Amelia S. De Mar Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund to benefit nursing students at North Carolina Central Uneersity.??
