Alexander Foy Murray

Alexander Foy Murray passed away this Sunday evening, September 5, 2021, at 8:00 p.m. at Duke University Hospital. He fought cancer for over 2 years, and he has now passed through the pearly Gates of Heaven to be with our mother once again for an eternal life with God.

Foy loved the farm life where he farmed tobacco, but he also retired from a trucking company at the age of 63 years old. He was a man that believed in hard work, and he often worked two jobs too be a good provider for his family. At the age of 70, he opened up a store in town which was a tackle and bait shop that they named Spanky's Produce because they also sold produce. J. B., his second born, helped run the store as well. Foy, who always was on the job because he enjoyed meeting his customers and talking to them. Foy worked up to the last 5 weeks of his life, he was 87 years old. Next month he would have been 88 years old and so now we cherish all the good memories of our father and mother.

Surviving are his sons, Johnny Delane Murray, and James “J.B.” Murray; his grandchildren, Angel Avila Murray and Joshua Delane Murray (Dana R.); and his great grandchildren, Carson and Skylar. He is also survived by his two sisters, Edna Brooks, and Betsy Hobgood (Raymond).

Foy was preceded in death by his parents, Basil S. Murray and Thelma Harris Murray; his wife, Janice C. Murray and his siblings, Thomas Murray, JB Murray, Oscar Murray, Stephen Murray, Shirley Murray, Johnny Murray, Adele Townsend and Willie Mae Kilgore.

A funeral service will be held on September 10, 2021, at 3:00 pm with visitation at 2:00 pm at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home. Service will be officiated by Pastor Daniel Blasky. Burial will follow the chapel service at the family cemetery, the Satterwhite Family Cemetery off James Royster Road.
