Nellie Veasey Leonard, age 78, died Sunday morning at Yancey Rest Home in Hillsborough. She was a Durham native born to the late Otho and Mary Pollard Veasey on December 28, 1926.
Nellie retired from Liggett & Myers after 50 years of employment. She was an active member of Greystone Baptist Church, where she volunteered her time and talents with the Second Mile Ministry and the Joy Sunday School Class.
Nellie is survived by her sister, Jean Veasey of Chapel Hill; her brother, Johnny Veasey of Durham; her long-time and very special friend, Carolyn Swanson of Durham; one niece, Michele Lineberry and husband, David, also of Durham; four nephews, Bill Veasey and wife, Joan, of Durham; Ricky Sloan of New Hampshire; Michael Edwards and wife, Debra, and Blake Hogan, all of Durham; and nine great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 20, from the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service with Mr. Jack Rigsbee presiding. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
Friends may visit Monday evening from 7:00-8:30 PM at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home.
