Naomi Chisenhall Mims, age 88, died Sunday morning at Hillcrest Convalescent Center. She was born in Person County to the late John Jackson and Della Harris Chisenhall. Naomi moved from Roxboro to Durham in 1938 and soon began working at Liggett Myers where she retired after 44 years of employment.

Naomi had a strong faith in God and was an active member of Robbins Rd. Christian Church; she truly loved her church family. She was an excellent gardener and took pride in the seasonal flowers that were planted so beautifully in her gardens each year.

Naomi loved sports and was a captain of her Lowes Grove High School basketball team. She was well known for her love of the Carolina athletics program, especially the soccer and basketball teams. Her enthusiasm will be missed in the upcoming Tar Heel seasons.

Naomi is survived by her three loving children, Darlene Mims Blake and husband, Bobby, of Durham; Carolyn Mims Darby and husband, Jeff, of Austin, TX; and Mike Mims and wife, Joanne, of Durham; seven grandchildren, Becky, Beth Anne, Brad, Michael, Kathryn, Kristen Mitch, and Katie; and seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, J.C., Jordan, Blake, Jon Ward, Chloe and Riley Ann. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy, who was a former employee of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 20, 2011 from the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service with Mr. Mike Poole presiding. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Friends may visit Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home and other times at Naomi

Carolyn, I was so very sorry to hear of your mothers passing. She was a very friendly person. I remember her from the old E.K. Powe days when she would sometimes visit the school. God bless your family during these hard times.
