Mrs. Bernice Elizabeth Dove (nee Grzywacz) Restivo died peacefully May 7, 2018, at her Pittsboro home surrounded by her loving family. She was 81.
Bernice was born June 13, 1936, in Washington, D.C., to Frances Kowalski Dove and John Paul Dove of Inverness, MD. She attended Sacred Heart of Mary grade school in Graceland Park, MD. She graduated from Notre Dame Preparatory High School in Baltimore, MD, in June 1953. From 1953 to 1954, she attended Bard Avon Business College and later graduated from Holy Family College in Philadelphia, PA.
She worked for the Dean in the Office of Admissions at the University of Maryland Medical School while attending the University of Baltimore School of Law at night. While working at the medical school, she met her future husband, Dr. Marion Charles Restivo. They married on May 3, 1958. She received her law degree from the University of Baltimore in 1965.
Her lifelong interests included quilting, knitting, reading, sports, and volunteering. Her greatest passion and accomplishment, however, was her family.
She is survived by her three children, Kathryn Ann Restivo (William Brooks Gentry) of Apex, NC; Diane Restivo Neal (Dr. Randolph Voss Neal) of Danville, VA; and Michael Louis Restivo (Dana Branson Restivo) of Aiken, SC; and her two grandchildren, Lillie Jennett Neal of Charlottesville, VA; and Voss Marion Neal of Danville, VA. Also surviving are her brother, Richard Jerome Dove, and his wife, Joanne Tezak Dove, of New Bern, NC; and her sister-in-law, Rosetta May Maggelet, of Bradenton, FL; in addition to many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Bernice on Wednesday, May 16, at 9:30 am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 920 Carmichael Street, Chapel Hill, NC. The Very Rev. Scott McCue, V.F., will preside. A reception in her honor will immediately follow at the church’s Friends and Family Center. Bernice will then be interred at the family’s plot in Chapel Hill Cemetery.
The Restivo family would especially like to thank the Sibrian family for their attentive and compassionate care in Bernice’s last days.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bernice’s name may be made to CORA Food Pantry, P.O. Box 1326, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
