BELMONT – Mary K. O’Neill, died May 17, 2008, from complications following a long illness. Mary was born May 10, 1938, in Brooklyn, N.Y. and has lived in North Carolina for 44 years. She raised her family in Belmont, N.C. She then went on to earn her bachelors degree from Sacred Heart College in Belmont. She continued her education and received her Masters degree from UNC in Rehabilitation Counseling. She has worked in that field for the past 20 years. Mary was a devoted member of Holy Infant Catholic Church in Durham, N.C. She was active in the yarn ministry and bible study.
Surviving are her daughters, Peggy Morrow and husband, Bill, Leslie Smollen and husband Chris; son, Rob O’Neill; grandchildren, Erin Adams and Luke Smollen; great-grandson, Jack Tucker; her brother, Chet Kalenty and wife Lottie; sister, Jane Zach; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Predeceased are her brother Rev. Adalbert Kalenty, OFM; and sister, Lillian Terhune.
Friends may visit 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 W. Main St., Durham, N.C. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10 a.m. Wednesday from Holy Infant Catholic Church in Durham, N.C.
