Mary Ann Gilleskie, 77, won her long, courageous battle with cancer when her Lord and Savior called her home on March 11, 2014.
After moving to Durham from Bridgeville, PA, Mary Ann and her husband of fifty years, the late Alexander Gilleskie, raised four children: Mark Gilleskie of Blowing Rock, NC; Gary Gilleskie of Chapel Hill, NC; Mary Lynne Hunt of Wilmington, NC; and Alicia Lupton of Raleigh, NC.
When most of her children were in high school, Mary Ann graduated from North Carolina Central University with a degree in nursing. Her straight A’s and valedictorian status at NCCU exemplified her passion and caring as a nurse at Durham Medical Center and Durham Regional Hospital for the next 20+ years.
In addition to the joy provided to her by her faith, her children, her children-in-law Margaret, Donna, Ronnie, and Kevin, and her dear friends, her joy in recent years was multiplied by her eight grandchildren: Xander, Matt, Molly, Maggie, Smith, Drew, Anna Michael, and Olivia. We will miss the warm and welcoming atmosphere she always provided, yet strive to continue what she so thoughtfully taught by her example.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at St. Matthew Catholic Church with Fr. Thanh Nguyen presiding. Burial will be held in St. Matthew Cemetery and a reception will follow in the church parish hall.
Friends may visit Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service in Durham.
Contributions in Mary Ann’s memory may be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1001 Mason Rd., Durham, NC 27712.
