Another angel to watch over us… Here’s to the one who filled my emptiness after mama died. What a sweet homecoming to be reunited with his parents and only sister, my mama. Much love to everyone who was touched by this gentle soul.?

This world has lost an beloved man who always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye, but heaven has gained an angel. Uncle Mark was one of those people that everyone loved for he had the ability to make every person he met feel so special and so loved. He will be remembered by so many for his kind spirit, his love of his family and fur- family, and the love he had for making children smile by sitting on the lap of the “real” Santa Claus. Rest in Peace sweet Uncle Mark….we love you!
Betty Currin
Mark D. Currin was my brother in law for forty seven years but he was my friend years before that. I always called him the gentle giant, because he had such a great amount of love he gave to each and everyone he met! He made everyone think they were his favorite person in the world! Mark loved Susan and David and Brian beyond belief, and loved all his family leaving no one without a doubt how he felt! We weep for ourselves tonight because we will no longer have you to brighten up our world! We love you and miss you Mark but will meet again!

To Mark’s Dear Family,
My heart is heavy as I have learned of Mark’s passing. Hettie Lou was like a sister to me. I always love to see her brothers. They always make me feel close to her. I had seen Mark several times in the last few years at UNC. He was always happy and smiling. He enjoyed telling me of his family. He would catch me up on how and where everyone was. My deepest sympathy to each of you. Treasure your wonderful memories of happy times together. I know there is much happiness in heaven for Edith, Watson and Hettie Lou.

Aunt Susie, I thought a lot of Uncle Mark, and I’m so thankful for the memories I have of him. I Thess. 4:13 says, “concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, as others which have no hope. I know this is a sad time because we have lost a great man, but we can have comfort because we will see him again one day! Uncle Mark took hold of a hand, and found that to be God’s hand. He took a breath of fresh air, and found that to be celestial air. He felt invigorated, and found that to be immortality. He awoke and found it home. I pray this has encouraged you and given you some comfort. I love you Aunt Susie, and I am praying for you.

We are so sorry for your loss and hope you can find comfort from each other, your friends and the many good memories of Mark that you share.
Sanford Daniel, daughters Gail, Michele, and Mary
On behalf of the Daniel family, our sincere condolences to your family. Mark was like family and WAS family as was Uncle Watson and Aunt Edith to our mother Sophia and Sanford. He was always available to cook up a mess of barbequed chicken for our neighborhood get to-gethers. We will miss him!
Hillman Currin
Our deepest sympathy to the Currin family. Mark and I would see each other, from time to time, rambling around the thrift stores of Wake Forest and Raleigh. He was surely a very gentle and caring person. Use his strength to guide you in the days ahead.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Currin family at this time. I knew him as Santa since he came to our preschool every year for more years than I can count. We would never consider having anyone else come out to visit our school other than Mark because he embodied all that was magical about Santa. The children, staff and myself at Children’s Academy will miss him terribly!
