Madeline was a devoted mother, taking pride in the accomplishments of her sons. She resumed her nursing career, excelling in patient care and education. In 1990, Madeline and Kaspar retired to Durham, North Carolina, and enjoyed attending organ recitals at Duke Chapel and travelling to visit friends and relatives throughout the United States and Germany. Madeline joined a women’s group, the Reviewers, and cherished her friendships with its members. Throughout her life, Madeline was quick to help others, always with a friendly smile. She was very proud of the accomplishments of her sons and their families.
