Linda Lang, 57, died in her sleep at home on June 8, 2010. She is survived by her mother, Joan Lang age 92, her brothers Jordan, Philip, and Christopher and their families, and by her best friend Vickie Shea, with whom she shared a happy home in Fearrington Village along with “the girls” cats Jamie and Samantha Grace.
Linda was a social worker all her life. She was passionate about social justice and infuriated by hypocrisy, oppression, racism, and rampant materialism. At the same time, she had a lively, generous, humorous way of bringing people together in a wide range of professional and volunteer settings. She developed Specialized Services for Children now Community Partnerships, Inc. for young children with developmental disabilities in Wake County. Later in her career she took a leadership role in Wake County’s services for adults with dual diagnoses of mental illness and developmental disabilities. After moving to Chatham County and retiring, she immersed herself happily in a variety of community service activities.
An informal celebration of her life along with a reception with Vickie will be held on Saturday, June 26 from 4:30-6:30 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 396 West Street in Pittsboro 542-3057.
