Linda “Gayle” Amshay

Posted By Hall-Wynne On March 12, 2019 @ 2:33 pm In Durham,Obituaries | 15 Comments

MEBANE – Linda “Gayle” Amshay, 61, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 12th, 2019.  Gayle was born on July 7th, 1957 in Durham, NC. She attended UNC-G graduating with a BS in Education which she utilized throughout her life.  Teaching was not only her occupation but Gayle’s passion.  She loved her students and they loved her!  She had many fulfilling years teaching at Grey Stone Preschool & Kindergarten.

She is survived by her husband, Don of 35 years; daughter, Lara; mother, Mildred Doby; brother, Ronnie Doby and sister, Jackie Brady (Barry).  Nieces Whitney Johnson (Matt) with Carter & Mackenzie and Lindsay Miller (Justin) with Kylie & Ava.

Family was extremely important in her life where for many years she lived beside her parents with Don and Lara.  Whether it was mowing their grass, raking pine straw or just walking over for a visit, Gayle was always there.  She enjoyed the family beach weeks and we mean “whole family” beach weeks.  As you may suspect there were moments we often wanted to forget but Gayle’s journaling or later Facebook postings prevented that from happening.  It was fun in the later years for the family to gather together and listen to Gayle read from her journal.  We truly had many laughs together

Gayle was devoted to anything she did!  One of her top priorities was being a devoted wife and mother.  As a mother, she assisted, attended and supported Lara in her many activities like chorus, sports and their nightly walks.  She enjoyed organizing and hosting Fourth of July cook-outs where she displayed her patriotism in many forms and ways as she decorated everything in sight, red, white & blue.  Oh don’t forget the pledge also.  Gayle enjoyed planting and working with flowers in her yard as well as her parents yard.  She valued the many family trips which included, Hawaii, Outer Banks, California and her favorite place of all … Washington DC.

Gayle displayed her commitment to her Savior with her walk and service for Him.  This incorporated fulfilling many roles with the church at Northgate Chapel.  These roles included piano playing, Sunday School, Awana, choir and practical hospitality.  She was a faithful servant for many years.

Now Gayle is present with the Lord, the one she loved and adored.

Psalm 116:15

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.

Funeral services will be held at Northgate Chapel, 3207 Duke Homestead Road, Durham, NC 27705, on Friday, March 15th, 2019 at 2:00 PM with a visitation from 12:45 PM – 1:45 PM. The Amshay family is under the care of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mountain Top Youth Camp at 1460 Mackay Lane, Pinnacle, NC 27043.

Condolence from Christine Mabe on March 15th, 2019 8:30 am

I only met Miss Gayle one time, but after years of knowing and working with her daughter, Lara and hearing Lara talk about her parents, it was evident to me just how much Miss Gayle loved and cherished her family, and how much of a champion and supporter she was of her daughter. I know she will be missed dearly by her family. So thankful you all have such joyful and fond memories of her and can rest easy knowing she is no longer in pain and is walking with God and tending to Heavenly flowers.

Dear Mildred , Don and Lara.
I was so saddened to learn just last week of Gayle’s passing. So many times during my year in DUMC in 1995-96 I was privileged to experience the unstinting unconditional expression of practical Christian love and fellowship in your homes and Gayle together with Don and Les and Mildred made those sweet memories so unspeakably special . Gayle is now together with beloved Les where there are no more partings with Him Whom we love .Please please contact us williamthomasmcb@doctors.org.uk. With warm Christian love , William (and family)
