DURHAM: Laurie Elaine Adams, 51, died unexpectedly at home Thursday. She was born November 14, 1964 in Durham to Marvin W. and Eleanor Wells Adams. Laurie graduated from Jordan High School, and was a graduate of UNC-Wilmington with a double major in accounting and business management. Following graduation, she began her career with the EPA as an auditor for the Inspector General, a position she proudly held until her death.

Laurie was an ardent Duke Blue Devil’s fan, who rarely ever missed watching a game since childhood. She had a great flair for adventure with a love for travel, especially internationally. Laurie was fiercely loyal as a mother, daughter and friend. She was perceptive to those in need, generously giving of herself to others.

Laurie is survived by her daughter, Cassidy Adams; her parents Eleanor and Marvin Adams of Durham; and loyal canine companion, Freckles.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday from Lowe’s Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Gerald Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit 4-6 PM Saturday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. Gifts in Laurie’s memory may be made to the Youth Group of Lowe’s Grove Baptist Church, 4430 S. Alston Ave. Durham 27713. Condolence from Tim and Stace Baumgarten on January 14th, 2016 4:42 pm

Laurie was a blazing bright star in a world full of darkness. She brought so much life and joy to everyone around her. It was so clear that she was such an awesome Mom, and lived Cassidy with everything she had. I can attest that Laurie was a truly awesome and loyal friend. She is much loved by my wife and I; I don’t think I have words to describe how we both feel about her. I pray that comfort, healing and peace is given to each of you during this beyond difficult time. In whatever capacity we can serve your family you need only express the need. With much love,
Tim and Stace Baumgarten

Mr. and Mrs. Adams, and Cassidy,

Growing up with Laurie was an honor and a privilege I will always treasure. Her playfulness defined her being — forever a kid at heart — and the laughter she brought with her will ring on, holding a special place within each of us. While I cannot imagine your grief, I do hope you find peace with the loss, and stay strong in your faith that you will all join her one day to be a family again.

My love to all of you,
Donna

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Laurie and I were in high school together. She was a very special friend and person that everyone loved to be around. Her kind heart and world class sense of humor were inspirational to all those who knew her. I have not seen her since our high school days but was deeply saddened to hear of her premature and unexpected passing. I am sorry we did not stay in better touch but wish to send condolences to her parents and daughter and to let you all know what a wonderful person she was and how much her bright light will surely be missed.

Condolence from The Schofield Family on January 15th, 2016 3:21 pm

Cassidy, Mr. and Mrs. Adams,
Words can not express the sorrow and heavy heart we all feel. I think back to all the great times Laurie and I had, whether in New York City, Boston, Washington or Durham. She truly was a fun, generous, loving, and adventurous person. I always enjoyed hearing about her many adventures or details of her Cris Angel encounters. Those memories provide some measure of comfort and I pray that they are providing some measure of comfort to all of you. Laurie is smiling down from heaven. I feel very blessed that she came into my life. I miss my dear friend. Love you girl!
With deepest sympathy.
Shannon Schofield, Bridgewater MA

Condolence from Sharyn Teasley-Hall (Blalock) on January 15th, 2016 3:58 pm

Laurie’s passing has left a massive void in many lives, especially for her Dad, Mom and Cassidy. There was never any doubt that she loved Marvin and Eleanor whether they were traveling and cruising or watching Duke playing basketball! Her heart had no boundaries in her love for Cassidy and there is no doubt she was the bright star in Laurie’s life. She also loved her friends deeply and was fiercely loyal to those lucky enough to call her “Friend”.

I’ve spend the last 24 hours remembering our childhood, the fun times we had at her home, swimming, playing with her dog “Pepi” whom I thought was the smartest dog in the universe. Laurie was an avid athlete and loved to argue with me over the rivalry between Duke or Carolina (we all know she was DUKE blue to her very core). I also remember traveling to Carolina Beach with Marvin and Laurie in his pickup truck (had to be in 78/79) and he teaching us what the ‘flashing of the lights’ meant to on-coming traffic on a dark country road and how ‘cool’ we thought that was. It never mattered what we were doing, she approached it all with tenacity, a wicked sense of humor and made us all better people for having known and loved her.

So, my dear friend, go do God’s work now and we will see you when we get to Heaven.

Condolence from Tim on January 20th, 2016 11:01 am

I’m so sorry for Marvin, Eleanor and young Cassidy’s loss. I wanted to share a memory I have of Laurie. She once lived with us in Wilmington while she was going to college. Marvin is an excellent carpenter and he rebuild our garage into a lovely room for Laurie, I was 12/13 at the time and unknown to her I would sneak into her “grown up” room and look at her cool records. My very favorite was Prince “Purple Rain” an amazing album that will live on forever and I will always remember Laurie and her record collection when I hear it. God bless, Laurie.

your cousin
Tim
