Kristi Lynn Hansen

Posted By Hall-Wynne On March 6, 2012 @ 12:00 am In Obituaries | 73 Comments

Kristi Lynn Hansen, 35, of Wabash Road, Chapel Hill died unexpectedly, along with her yet to be born daughter Aria Dulce Shepherd, at their home on Tuesday, March 6, 2012.

Kristi was born March 16, 1976 in Sanford, Maine, the daughter of Paul Henry Hansen and Deborah Ann Munch Hansen. She was a graduate of Johnson and Wales University. Kristi and her fiance’ Ben Shepherd were recent newcomers to the area, having relocated from St. John, US Virgin Islands.

Surviving is her fiance’, Benjamin Seth “Ben” Shepherd, of the residence; her parents, Paul and Deborah Hansen of Acton, ME; her sister, Kelly Leigh Hansen-Fortin of Waterboro, ME; brother, Keith Paul Hansen of St. John, USVI; and her grandmother, Dolores Munch of Gales Ferry, CT.

Friends will honor Kristi and Aria at a memorial gathering at 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon, March 10, 2012 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro. Kristi will be cremated following the memorial gathering, and a public memorial service will be held later in St. John.

Friends and family of Kristi and Aria Dulce Shepherd Ben and Kristi’s daughter,
We have all been fortunate in sharing the life, love and passion that surrounded Kristi throughout the time we were lucky enough to have shared with her. Her remarkable ability to connect with everyone she met and her drive to help us all be better people are qualities we should celebrate and carry with us always.

In keeping with these beliefs, her family would like to continue this legacy of love through a fund, the Kristi Hansen Fund, expressly created for helping people of St. John who are in need of the assistance she would have selflessly given. Replacing the grace she showed us all is impossible, but trying to continue the always giving attitude is something we can strive to do in her memory.

We have received phone calls and messages asking what help can be given. Our simple desire is that friends wishing to express their condolences consider, in lieu of flowers, making a contribution to, the Kristi Hansen Fund, helping us to continue Kristi’s passion of putting others before herself. Thank You all for your support and love these past days. Hansen Shepherd Family

Hansen family, Ben, and Kristi’s loved ones-

Words cannot express my sincere condolences for your loss. I, like so many others, am blessed to have known Kristi and will forever be grateful for her joy, spirit, and love she shared with everyone she met. I am thankful for her memories and honor them with a tribute: ‘To another place, another time; never looking back to the coast of somewhere beautiful; sweetbreads; sea glass; the smell of peppermint as the wind tickles your feet; standing in the rain during one of those amazing St. John thunderstorms while Jimmy sings “how deep is the ocean, how high is the sky” – I honor you, for never letting the night end quite yet, running the trails of life while avoiding Christmas bush, and breaking $100 bills first thing in the morning. I still am humbled by your love of family, Ben, friends, plants, CSI, French pressed coffee, cook books, and White Rhino’s…Kristi will forever live in our hearts.’

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I never knew Kristi. In fact I am listing to Kenny’s New album and read about her. I looked up Kristi on the internet and found a wonderful website from her Fiancé Ben. I now feel like I knew her and what kind of a person she was. May she be in a better place with her daughter looking down at all her friends and family and to all the people that she has helped. To Kristi’s family and friends our hearts go out to you and may you heal with time. Here is a little message.

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.

Condolence from Dan on November 7th, 2018 2:23 pm

I have thought about Kristi many times since hearing the song “Happy On the Hey Now” for the first time several years ago. I will be at the Foxy’s NYE party on Jost Van Dyke on 12/31 as part of a 5 day visit to the Virgin Islands – my first time there. Like many, I was inspired to visit by the song “Somewhere In the Sun” by Kenny Chesney, one of many songs that have touched my soul like Kristi did to KC. As part of my own soul searching during this trip, I was wondering where Kristi lived in the Virgin Islands, where she hung out with KC, etc., and came across this page. I suppose it just seems fitting to acknowledge Kristi, Aria, Capt. Ben, Kenny Chesney, and all those who knew and loved Kristi. It is all of you that have made my first trip to the BVI/JVD a reality, and I thank you for it. Cheers to you Kristi.

Condolence from Dave Harwood on March 6th, 2019 5:17 pm

Condolence from Gaye Snyder on March 6th, 2019 11:19 pm

Ben, and Kenny. And Gretchen,
I was listening to the beautiful tribute to Kristi on NSR Sirius xm this afternoon…and had to sit in my car to finish hearing what gretchen said before i could go into the p.o. When i came out she was singing Amazing Grace, and like Tom, i found myself weeping at the loss of someone i never even knew. Then i heard Ben tell of his relationship with her, and had to pull off the road to continue to listen. STJ is a special place for me, and right now i am wishing i could be going there on Friday with my granddaughter, for her college spring break. While thinking of all the great things she will be doing and places she will be going… i am grateful that someday i may be able to go back there to coral bay and eat a burger at skinnys or have a painkiller anywhere, but Kristi never will.
Bless you Ben Shepherd, and thanks Kenny Chesney, for continuing to acknowledge the influence that Kristi Hansen had on your life…
as i lay in bed tonight, i will hear the sound of those waves coming up on the shore that i heard today in my car.
