Mr. Joseph Odell “Joe” Jackson, 55, of Griffin Road in Pittsboro died Saturday night, August 29, 2009 in his home following an extended period of declining health.

Joe was born in Womack Army Hospital on Ft. Bragg May 10, 1954, the son of Luby Odell and Doris Keck Jackson. Joe was a member of Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ. Prior to his health failing, he was employed as a meat cutter in the butcher shop of Lowes Foods for a number of years.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Griffin Jackson; sons, Aaron Jackson and wife Stacy of Cary, Kevin Jackson of Pittsboro; step-daughter, April Elliott of Tramway; parents, Odell and Doris Jackson of Pittsboro; sister, Ruth Gunter and her daughter Lauren of Pittsboro; brothers, Mike Jackson and wife Pam, of Pittsboro, Charles Jackson and wife Diane, of Sanford, and Tommy Jackson and wife Kim of Arizona; grandchildren, Connor and Dylan; step-grandson Charlie; as well as nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Bob Wachs and the Rev. Ray Gooch at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday night from 7:00 – 9:00 pm at Hanks Chapel Church, and at other times at the residence of Odell and Doris Jackson, 245 Hanks Chapel Road, Pittsboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to offset expenses may be sent to Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Griffin Chapel, 396 West Street, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

The first time I met you Joe, you and your brother Mike bought me a bag of M&M’s at Crutchfield’s Grocery, it’s still one of my favorite candies today.

To the entire family I send my condolences. I knew the entire family for many years and I know how it feels to lose a child and a sibling.Joe was a wonderful dad, husband, brother, son, grandfather and friend to many.
