DURHAM- Jim Beal left this world peacefully on Saturday March 5, 2001 surrounded by family, after a long battle with illness.
Jim was the son of the late Roy H. and Cornelia Poole Beal. He was a resident of Durham, attended Jordan High School and was known as “Big Jim’ to his many friends and acquaintances.
He leaves behind Diane Gilliam Beal, his loving wife of 28 years, his daughter Amy Beal Johnson, son in law Grady Johnson, and his grandsons Jonathan and Christian Johnson his brother Roy T. Beal and sister Judith Fay Beal Hare, his god-daughter Belinda Sides and his many nieces and nephews.
Jim loved to fish, play guitar, cooking, and eating good pizza, and being with family and friends. At one time Jim was even nicknamed the “Pizza Man” of Durham, but mostly Jim was an avid Duke fan.
A special thanks to the Hock Pavilion of Durham, the staff of Duke Univ. Hospital, and a big thank you to the staff of the ICU at Durham Regional Hospital.
A memorial service will be offered 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 8, 2011 in the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Durham. A Celebration of Life will follow at his residence. All are invited.
