James “Buck” Percy Matthews

James “Buck” Percy Matthews, age 72, died on March 11, 2019. He was the son of the late James Lewis Matthews and Annie Gertrude Capps Matthews.  He was born in Granville County on February 8, 1947 and lived a fulfilling life surrounded by family and friends of the community.

Buck loved to cook and was a “father” to many.   He was a man with a great personality and always loved to joke. Buck had a huge heart and loved to help any and all.

Buck is survived by his daughter, Teresa Matthews; his grandson, Perry “PJ” James Matthews (Laura); his brother, Randy Matthews (Barbara); his sister, Peggy Hicks (Wayne); his grandchildren, Jayla Matthews and Maycie Mathews and many wonderful nieces and nephews and other loving family and friends.

Buck is predeceased by his parents; his son, Jamie Matthews; his grandson, Little Randy Abbott; and his brother, Perry Lewis Matthews.

A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at Sunday, March 17, 2019, 2:00 pm at Bullock Baptist Church with visitation with family and friends at 1:00 pm at the Church.

The Matthews family is being proudly served by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home, Oxford, NC.

I was so sorry to hear of Buck’s passing. I remember so many good times in Bullock growing up and loved Buck’s sausage. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers as you try to cope with his loss. All my love.

He was a great and caring loving man and loved to make you laugh and loved helping others and he will truly be missed. He was also a good step father to his step children too!
Going to miss him bringing us sausage and vegetables all the time too. RIP Buck and we miss you already. My prayers are with his family and friends!

Prayers go out to family and friends, I remember when the sacrest time. Of my life,daughter Audrey Yancey. Was having her first heart procesure. In walked Buck with Tommy Yancey. Our prayers are with the family as they go through this difficult time. Hold on to the love Buck had for you all and the love you had for him. PJ, Laura and Teresa he loved you all dearly and he absolutely adored Jayla and Maycie. Always keep that in mind and live by the teachings he gave to each of you. I am so sorry for your loss. I have fond memories from my childhood of Buck. He was always nice to me and welcomed me at his house. Growing up across the street recalling all of the neighbor kids were close and We all spent a lot of time at each other’s house and of course Buck and Patricia,s at that time was a close 2nd home to me…. Some of the Best times in my life! Rest In Peace ! I am sure that you had a grand reunion with Jamie, your parents and your Grandson.
