I initially knew Dad Dossett as a DeMolay Chapter Dad in Durham in the 1950’s-1960’s and through my father, Claiborn Byrd. Later in my life, Jack represented us as a real estate broker on numerous properties. I had an appreciation for him and his continual efforts to help others throughout his life. I know that you will truly miss him.

From the members of Eno Lodge No. 210, our thoughts and prayers go out to Jack’s family at the loss of their loved one. Eno Lodge has lost a dedicated member of over 51 years who rarely ever missed a meeting. The first time I met Jack was when he came to my house on the investigating committee for the lodge when I petitioned to join. Jack was a stickler for details and was always ready to help out when anyone asked. He appointed me as one of his officers when he became the Master at the lodge and then gladly assisted when asked as I learned my parts. Back in the late 80s, Jack walked from his house to the lodge in the snow one evening to come to a practice that I had asked for. He was always ready to congratulate you on a fine job when you deserved it and was very complimentary and proudly praised you for your accomplishments and appointments. Anytime I came to the lodge or saw him out and about, he would ask how my wife and my two girls were doing and what they were up to. My girls still remember Jack from the York Rite picnics, but mostly from the many times that he would buy them ice cream when we saw him at Northgate Mall and that was almost 20 years ago. The last time I saw Jack at the hospital a few weeks ago, he was smiling as usual when I came in, even though he didn’t feel well. He even chuckled a bit when the nurse asked if we were kin and I said that we were brothers. Jack was a good friend and a good Brother to me and many others. He will be missed at our meetings and I will miss our conversations that we enjoyed over the years. May God bless and comfort Jack’s family and many friends. Sincerely, Dicky Lyon, Secretary Eno 210

Jack was a dear friend of our family. We spent much time together in the late 60s, as my father and Jack served in the Eno Shrine together. Jack joined us for holiday dinners oftentimes, and as I was recently telling his niece, Joyce at a high school reunion, Jack always brought a little box of something sweet to our house at Christmas time. He also took time to visit with my grandmother who lived with us. Jack lived a long life, and he will be missed. We were very glad to be part of his life.
