
Jack Clinton Gaster, Sr., 87, peacefully went home to his Lord on Thursday, January 1, 2015. Born February 10, 1927, in Chatham County, NC, to Hubert Edward Gaster, Sr. & Mary Christmas, Mr. Gaster graduated from Bells High School in 1944 and honorably served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He worked for Wrights Machinery/Sperry Flight Systems in Durham, NC for 35 years. An avid hunter, fisherman, and sportsman, Mr. Gaster most loved coaching his sons Randy and Jack, attending the football games which Jack coached, hunting with Randy and enjoying his grandsons’ and great-grandchildren’s activities.
Mr. Gaster was preceded in death by his parents; step-parents Althia (Pete) Amos and Ralph Bedient; brothers Hubert Edward Gaster, Jr. and William Lee Gaster; sister Bettie Catherine (Cathy) Gaster; beloved first wife of 31 years Dorothy Johnson Gaster; and son Jack Clinton Gaster, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Esther Marie Henry Gaster of Pittsboro, NC; son Randolph (Randy) Thomas Gaster of Clarksville, VA; daughter-in-law H.K. Gaster of Murphy, NC; grandsons Guy Brooks Gaster of Garner, NC & Travis Clinton (Sherri) Gaster of Myrtle Beach, SC; great-grandchildren Morgan Elizabeth Gaster and Jacob Brooks Gaster; sister Margaret (Peggy) Ward Gaster Kozar of Durham, NC; sisters-in-law Edna Gaster of Henderson, NC and Helen Gaster of Apex, NC; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Hall-Wynne Griffin Chapel, Pittsboro. The funeral service will be at 11 am on Monday at Pittsboro Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Pittsboro Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are being made through Hall-Wynne Griffin Chapel Funeral Home in Pittsboro, NC.
