Julius S. Howard “Papa J”, 68, died on Saturday, February 6, 2010. Papa J. was born in Wake County, NC to the late Carl and Pauline Howard on October 14, 1941.

Papa J. was a 1959 Graduate of Chapel Hill High School. He also worked with Triangle Ford Industrial Engines for 25 + years where he eventually retired as General Manager. He served with the National Guard for 8 years. He was and did many things that he was greatly proud of, but his greatest pleasures came from the time and company that he spent with his family and close friends. Papa J. lived for his grandchildren and seemed to collect more than just his own everywhere that he went. He was a great man and will always be remembered with every sunset, trip to the lake and Duke victory.

He was a Shriner and a Mason and until he was no longer able to, he greatly enjoyed donating his time to both organizations in their efforts to help children everywhere.

Papa J. is survived by his wife Ann Howard of Palmer Springs, VA; son Steve Howard Laura Ann of Durham; daughter Kimberly Howard Naughton of Raleigh; grandchildren Zach McGhee, Taylor Naughton, Rachel Ann Howard, Emma Howard, and Jake Howard; brother Eddie Howard of Durham and many good friends. He is predeceased by his parents and his faithful pet companion of many years C.J.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in J.S.’s name may be made to the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College St., Oxford, NC 27565 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Rd. Greenville, SC 29605. Please include “Julius S. Howard Memorial” on the memo line of your check.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 from the Chapel at Hall-Wynne, 1113 West Main St., Durham. The Rev. Mark D. Stephens, Pastor will preside. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, February 8, 2010 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. Dear Ann and Family,
Please know that all of you are in my prayers. Joan called me on Saturday night, and I am still having a hard time with the reality of J.S.’s death.
What wonderful memories I have of our good times. I am in involved in something that was planned and will not allow me to be with you tonight, but I will join you for the service tomorrow.
One of my my son’s doctors reminded me at his death that this was only a temporary separation.

Condolence from Pauline & Steve Faucette on February 9th, 2010 12:00 am

Steve & I extend our deepest sympathy to you and the family. We loved JS and we love you and miss seeing you very much. Our best to Kim and Steve and the grandchildren. As you know Ann, JS was my special sweetheart. I know you all will miss him, but you have so many special memories. As you know, we lost our son, Dale, in November. He was only 51. I can honestly tell you, it doesn’t get any better, we just have to learn to live with it and life goes on. With family and all the sweet memories and prayer, we go on. God takes care of us. Take care and lean on each other and the Lord. You are and will be in our thoughts and prayers. If we can help you in any way, please give us a call.

God Bless and be with you.
We Love You
Pauline & Steve Faucette
