Dear Joe, Jennifer, and Mr. Garrad – Jack and I were very saddened to learn of Ike’s passing. Condolence from Jennifer Floyd on December 18th, 2010 12:00 am

I’m very saddened to hear the news of Ike’s passing. I learned what “good” sausage and “good” bbq are from Ike and I’ve never been able to find anything that beats his! Memories of Missy and I playing “please pass the peeper” at Ike’s house, he always made us laugh til we cried… I’m fortunate to have known such a fantastic man. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Garrard family.

Love,
Jenn Floyd

I remember Ikey as always having a great smile and having to look down on all of us “short” people.
We always had a lot of fun and good times as NHS kids and later adults…God is getting a good one!

Ike was one of those guys you wanted to be around at NHS. He always had a smile to share and a good story to tell. We crossed paths a number of times over the years and he always stopped to say hello and catch up. He will be missed by all his friends, he was special.

Condolence from Bruce W Chambers on December 21st, 2010 12:00 am

Ike and I both attended Northern High School where we played on NHS basketball teams, even though he was a little older than me. Wow, time passes by so fast, but we never forget those who touched our lives along the way. Our passing from this earth is the last chapter in time, but it is the first chapter in eternity with our Lord. May God’s grace give Ike’s Family and loved ones some peace during these sad days at Christmas time when we also celebrate our Lord’s birth who came to be our Savior. May God’s richest blessings be with Ike’s Family and it is my prayer that our Lord’s arms will be around you and give comfort to each of you. Condolence from Al Wall on December 21st, 2010 12:00 am

One of the things that you could always count on, back when we attended high school together was seeing Ikey with a smile on his face. And a story that made you laugh. The last time I saw Ikey was at one of our reunions, so long ago that I can’t remember when. But Ikey was there, still smiling and I am sure that we shared a laugh. I only moved back to North Carolina a year ago and was looking forward to attending our next reunion. One face I looked forward to seeing was Ikey’s. I am so sorry now that he will not be there in person but I know his spirit will be. My deepest sympathies to his family and all of his friends, who share in his passing.

Condolence from Quinton Brantley on December 22nd, 2010 12:00 am

Ikey was my buddy, one of those that qualified to be in the Hillandale Blue Book. He was unique because he didn’t know a stranger and anyone that approached him felt at ease. He was a great listener, one of the few that stepped up to the plate when my Dad of 51 passed away. We had great fun times on his granddad’s farm blowing up water moccasin snakes with cherry bombs.
Would love to share stories with his family.

Condolence from Clara P. Raynor on December 29th, 2010 12:00 am

I live in Johnston County & am the great, great granddaughter of the Rev. Thompson Garrard who was a Methodist Circuit Rider in the early 1800’s. Upon retirement he served as minister for 3 years at Mt. Zion UM Church where we attend today. Perhaps we are related. From others’ comments it sounds like Ike was a grand person. I would be honored to know that we are related. A family search revealed that my great, great grandfather’s Uncle Samuel was also a minister. But I believe they were from Orange County. My condolences to the family whether or not we are related. Email address: royraynor@embarqmail.com
