Gordon Lee Chandler, 60, resident of 910 Constitution Avenue, died Sunday at his home. Lee was born in Durham. He was a graduate of Southern High School and attended Atlantic Christian College. Lee served in the U.S. Navy. For the last several years he has been employed with the Duke University Medical Center. He was a member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church.
Lee was first to call when UNC had a victory, but refused to answer when Duke won! Lee had a “true coolness” that made him unique. He played piano and had a beautiful tenor voice. It would be no surprise that Lee would step up on stage and join a local band using one of his many beloved blues harps.
Lee was preceded in death by his wonderful and much loved parents, Gordon and Linda Chandler.
Surviving are his sisters, Judi Claire Chandler and Ann Chandler Darcy and husband, Steve, all of Winston-Salem, NC ; a niece, Katie Ann and son Cameron of Wilmington, NC and a nephew, Jake of New York; his Aunt and Uncle, Margaret and Walker Stone and cousins, Sid Stone and wife Tara and Clint Stone and wife, Carroll all of Durham
