
Ernest Lawrence Simpson, passed away February 8 at Duke University Medical Center following a short term illness.
Ernie, beloved son of Jewell Saunders Simpson and the late
Lawrence Larry R. Simpson, was born June 11, 1959 in Durham, North Carolina.
He attended Durham public schools graduating from Durham High school in 1977 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Appalachian State University in 1981.
He attended Duke University as well, and following graduation from Appalachian he then attended the University of NC at Wilmington in their MBA School.
At the time of his death he was an auditor with the R. Dave Thomas Conference Center, Fuqua School of Business, Duke University. He was formerly employed as a staff accountant with Ruth M. Rogers CPA and Associates, as well as with the NC Treasurers Office and the North Carolina State Audit Division.
He was a lifelong member of Watts Street Baptist Church having served as a deacon, assistant treasurer, and on their budget and finance committee and missions committee.
Surviving in addition to his mother are uncles, Dan T. Simpson of Greensboro, NC, Louis Edwards Saunders of Nathalie, VA, and Earl B. Saunders of Rustburg, VA , two aunts, Mary Simpson Spoon of Greensboro, NC, Malissie Saunders Hill of Nathalie, VA, several cousins, two special sisterly friends, Cindy Harrell Horn of Los Angeles , CA.. and Mamie Harrell Coker of Raleigh, NC and special family friends, Franklin Harrell and Charles Rogers both of Durham, NC
Visitation will be Sunday, February 11th at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home from 3-5:00pm.
A private internment will be held Monday morning at Maplewood Cemetery . A Celebration of his life will be held 1:00pm, Monday, at Watts Street Baptist Church. .
The Reverend T. Mel Williams and the Reverend E. Richard Chorley will preside.
