
Elizabeth Irene Farris Carroll, age 78, died peacefully Saturday morning, January 2, 2010, at the Hock Family Pavilion in Durham. She was born in Rutherfordton, NC o n July 5, 1931 to the late Marvin and Hattie Pearl Morrow Farris.
Elizabeth’s greatest joys were found in her family, especially her children and grandchildren, and in her service as a Registered Nurse, having worked most of her much- loved career at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC and in home health care.
Elizabeth is survived by her five children: Andrea Goodwin of Durham, NC; Adaire Salt and husband, Al, also of Durham; Mary Carroll-Hackett of Farmville, VA; Hugh J. Carroll, Jr. and wife, Melissa, of Greensboro, NC; and Bill Carroll of Durham; her siblings: Nancy Bailey, Rachel Jenkins, Ray Farris, Doris Queen and David Farris, all of Morganton, NC; ten grandchildren: Jennifer Jewett, Jeffrey Swink, Joshua Swink, Nelson Cano, Lia Carroll-Hackett, J Hackett, Dean Jewett, Caitlin Carroll, Hannah Carroll and Eamon Carroll; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh J. Carroll.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 6, 2010 from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Elizabeth will be cremated at the Hall-Wynne Crematory.
Friends may visit with the family immediately after Mass in the church.
