Dorothy Vickers Spivey, 83, of The Church Road, Pittsboro, formerly of Black Mountain, died March 18, 2008 at Alamance Health Center. Mrs. Spivey was born in Calhoun, KY on October 24, 1924, the daughter of Gilbert Vickers and Mary Edna Welch. A homemaker, Dorothy also worked in the dairy industry for a number of years for both Jesse Fearrington and the Strowd family.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Faye Spivey of Siler CIty, Ronnie Henry Hilda Spivey of Bynum, Ray Dean Spivey of Matthews; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Helen Charles Burgess of Pisgah Forest, and Lena Pastor James Bowman of Haw River; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and an adopted grandson, Joshua Cowell.
The service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Charity Baptist Church, 5918 Whitney Road, Saxpahaw. Pastor James Bowman and Brother Mike Cowell will preside. Interment will follow in Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City.
