Donald George Ruegg, age 82, died Sunday, October 22, at Duke University Medical Center. Donald was born in La Junta, CO on September 11, 1924 to the late George Albert and Cecilia Corrine Decker Ruegg.
Donald graduated cum laude in 1947 from Dartmouth College with a B.A. degree, and later earned an MBA degree in 1972 from the University of Chicago. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
In 1986 Donald retired as Executive Vice-President from Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad Company. He moved to the Forest at Duke in Durham in 1993 and became a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and First Presbyterian Church in Durham.
Donald is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Ann Eichelberger Ruegg of Durham; his children: David and Peggy Ruegg of Augusta, KS; Gary and Kevin Ruegg of Chandler, AZ; Phil and Kathy Ruegg of Pueblo West, CO; Steve and Joan Ruegg of St. Louis, MO; Timothy and Peggy Ruegg of Seward, NE; and Susan and Wayne Jarvis of Baldwin, KS; his brother, Thomas Ruegg and wife, Phyllis, of Columbus, NC; 35 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Carson; and his brother, Robert Ruegg.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 25, from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Dan McLellan, OFM, presiding.
A reception will follow at the Forest at Duke at 12:00 PM.
