Deneaize H. Bennett

Deneaize Horton Bennett, age 82, died peacefully in her Durham home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, December 9, 2014. She was born in Granville County to the late Eddie “Jake” Horton and Estelle Adcock Horton. Deneaize was a founding member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and a charter member since 1956. She was employed with the Herald-Sun for 31 years.

Deneaize is survived by her brother, Joe Horton of Butner, NC; her sister-in-law, Jackie Bennett of Durham; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Bennett; and her sister, Eddie Lou Tilley.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 12, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tara Lain presiding.

Friends may visit one hour prior to the service in the church from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1320 Umstead Rd., Durham, NC 27712; or Duke Community Hospice, 4321 Medical Park Drive, Durham, NC 27704.

Ms. Bennett was a truly wonderful person and an absolute pleasure to work with. She always amazed me with her memory, recalling the details of thousands of Herald-Sun customers. I sincerely regret not learning of her passing in time to attend her memorial. She will be missed.
