Cindy Ann Howerton Springle

October 12, 2015 By Hall-Wynne 13 Condolences

Cindy Ann Howerton Springle, 59, lost her hard fought battle with ALS on October 10, 2015 surrounded by her loved ones at Duke Hospice Center. She was born on January 20, 1956 to Thomas and Lena Howerton in Durham, North Carolina. She spent 33 years with the love of her life, her husband, “her rock”, Alan Springle. She worked as a teller at the State Employees Credit Union in Durham and in Hillsborough for 30 years where she was a favorite friendly face for many customers and made some of her best friends. You could find Cindy at her happiest at the beach, listening to country music, reading, or baking her famous deserts in her kitchen. Cindy was a beacon of courage, optimism, and love. We will remember Cindy always full of life and wearing a smile. She would want to give special thanks to her husband Alan, sister Denise, aunt Nancy and her doctors and nurses at Duke for their care.

Cindy is survived by her father Thomas Howerton, loving husband Alan Springle, siblings: Lynne Ross, Denise Howerton, and Paul Stuart “Rabbit” Howerton, mother-in-law Buna “Mama B” Springle, and sister-in-law Bonnie McNair. She is also survived by eight nieces and nephews who she cherished: Elizabeth, Krista, Carey, Stefanie, Chelsea, Michael, Chuck, and Will as well as a large, beloved extended family. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm on Tuesday, October 13th and a Celebration of Life service led by Reverend Paul Cecil will follow on Wednesday, October 14th at 11:00am, both at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Durham. The family asks that donations be made to the ALS Association or Duke Hospice in lieu of flowers. Arrangements for the Springle family are under the care of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. I worked for Cindy over 20 years ago at Duke Street and I will say she was one of the sweetest, kindest people I ever came across.. I never remember her not having a smile on her face. May she have an eternal smile on her face as she rests in the arms of our Lord and saviour.

Sweet, sweet Cindy…I love that smiling friendly face…Cindy was always busy while working at the Credit Union, but she always had time to listen, smile, & tell me everything was going to be alright…I have probably known Cindy 30 yrs.. We met while I worked at DPS & she at the CU….Then she came to Hillsborough…How happy I was to see her smiling face at that CU…
    Will be missed….

I knew Cindy from birth. Always a beautiful person in looks and personality. More important than looks was her compassion and care for others. Cindy was a true treasure. I know she is celebrating and having a vibrant life in Heaven. Her Mom. Lena, was there to be the first to greet her as she was at Cindy’s birth. How great can that be to meet Jesus face to face and have your Mom there too!!

Cindy had that look and smile that you couldn’t help but love. She always greeted me with the best hug and I looked for her (to get that hug) at family gatherings. A cousin cherished, who will be missed. I offer my condolences to family and friends who have loved and cared for Cindy and ask God to be there for you.

To all of Cindy’s Family and loved ones: Cindy meant a lot to me when she and I worked together at CCB before she went to SECU. One day while in Hillsborough I stopped in the Credit Union to cash a ck.I saw a frail lady coming toward me and what told me it was Cindy was her warm, friendly smile. She cldn’t speak but her expression told me she was glad to see me. She wanted no Sympathy and was Bravely still at work. God Bless you ALL at this time… Carolyn Pope Nichols
