Christopher Hunt Harlan, 36, died at his home in Morrisville earlier this month. Chris was born in Birmingham, AL to William Robert Harlan, Jr, M.D. and the late Linda Carmichael on February 17, 1972.
Chris graduated from St Mary’s School and attended both Hampden-Sydney College and North Carolina State University. Chris worked many jobs after high school but felt most proud of his job as a library assistant at the National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences. He was a loyal employee that touched and was touched by many coworkers at NIEHS. Chris loved American history and politics. He traveled extensively with his father in North America and Europe; a railroad tour of Canada was a standout adventure. He had a remarkable knowledge of sports, politics and current events with an uncanny memory for dates and statistics. As a product of the 1970’s he retained a fondness of iconic 70’s television. Chris had many loves, but none of them compared to the love and appreciation that he had for his immediate and extended family. His true happiness resided in the relationships with his family and all those that cared so much for him. He will be remembered for his kindness, gentle spirit, and most of all courage and perseverance. We will miss Chris but know he is now in peace.
Chris is survived by his father William Harlan, Jr. M.D. of Chevy Chase, MD; brother Will Harlan, III, M.D. and his wife Betsy of Asheville, NC; sister Elizabeth Harlan Crowe, M.D. and her husband Jim of Nashville, TN; nieces and nephews Stephen Crowe; Catherine Crowe; Brennan Harlan; Mary Chamberlain Harlan, and Robert Harlan, and half-sister, Nicole Harlan of Atlanta, GA.
